Ogun First lady, Mrs Abiodun joins dignitaries to celebrate Chief Osoba at 80

The Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun joined Arrays of dignitaries that graced the 80th birthday book launch of former Governor of Ogun State and veteran journalist, Chief Olusegun Osoba.

The event , holding at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victory Island, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, was the public presentation of Osoba’s memoir, titled: “Battlelines: Adventures in Journalism and Politics.”

Convergence of opinions by speakers at the event bemoaned the high level of insecurity and terrorism that had drastically pulled the nation backward and threatened the peaceful co existence of the nation.

While summarizing the content of the book, the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osibajo lamented the setback insurgencies had brought to the all round development of the nation.

He described the boko haram insurgency and others as a deliberate ploy to put the country in disarray and destabilise the peaceful co existence of Nigeria.

“Boko haram insurgency is an evil that must be seen as a common enemy of all sects including Islam. The likes of boko haram, ISIS and jihadist Ideologies is based purely on hate, they have no terms or reference for peace.”

Prof. Osinbajo described Aremo Osoba as a great Journalist who had gallantly fought the battles encountered in
the field of reportage both during the military and civilian dispensations.

He lauded his efforts and struggles during the June 12 crisis and contributions towards entrenching democracy in the polity of Nigeria.

Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of the occasion, Rtd. Gen.Abdulsalam Abubakar disclosed that his friendship with the celebrant had lasted over three decades with strong bond despite religious and ethnic differences.

In his remark, the chairman of the governor’s forum, Gov. Kayode Fayemi congratulated Chief Osoba describing him as a pillar of reckoning in Nigerian politics, APC and Afenifere stating that he will always be a rallying point for them particularly in the south west.

The governor of Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun while giving the vote of thanks appreciated Aremo Segun Osoba for his support for him during his electioneering campaign pledging to uphold the tenets of democracy and conscientiously work out the mantra, building our future together.
